Please take a seat, stay awhile and let me tell you a story
MY story of who I am and how I came to love all things cheap and awesome.
A little bit about me, my name is Jen. I am a wife, daughter, sister, aunt (to many adorable nieces and nephews) and friend. I married my wonderful husband and best friend, Kyle (heretofore referred to as Mr. Awesome) in Nov. 2008. Mr. Awesome is currently in law school (making me a single wife. Is that possible?) and is preparing to graduate in December 2012. I couldn’t be more excited! We love softball and play any chance we get.I am a violinist and pianist; I LOVE music! I am a graphic designer with my own business called Sassy Graphics. We belong to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. If you’d like to get to know us better, feel free to visit our blog.
I blame my addiction to thrift stores on my Grandma. As a young girl, I remember going to the thrift stores with her and thinking “why would ANYONE buy this ugly piece of old nastiness!” I never in a million years thought the day would come where I would LOVE to go thrift store shopping...but it has. I get giddy like a little school girl when I see a unique end table in need of some TLC for only $5! I now PREFER to shop at thrift stores and will dedicate an entire day traveling around the city just to hit all of them.
I’ve never been one to spend huge amounts of money on any one item. I actually thought I was fairly frugal, then I met my husband. Let’s just say that shopping with Mr. Awesome was quite the learning experience. I can guarantee you that he could plan an entire month’s worth of meals for $50 or less. We might be eating Ramen Noodles and PB&Js but by golly it will be cheap! I have since learned to love his frugality...well most of the time anyways; and I would love to think that the best of both of us have rubbed off onto the other and now we are just pure awesome! (wishful thinking?)
When you’re a part time student newly married to a full time student, with a very little to a non existent income, you learn real quick how to do things on the cheap. Whether that means cutting coupons like crazy or finding creative cheap ways to decorate your house. I started with my dining room table and chairs and I was HOOKED! I have continued to look for hidden treasures ever since and I don’t plan on stopping anytime soon. This new love has carried over into creating crafts, home décor, recipes, home made cleaning supplies, and pretty much any DIY project. I’m always up for a good challenge!
I hope you will be inspired as you take a look around. Please, don’t be shy. Share your pictures, stories, failures, and achievements. It’s how we learn!
